"On impact, the mine leaps one meter (3 ft) into the air and explodes, sending out hundreds of small metal shards in every direction. It has a 'lethal radius' of 25 meters and can cause wounds up to 300 meters away.

'It punctures your organs in a hundred places, the victim then generally goes into shock and dies a slow, painful death'"

Good movies I've seen lately:
Scenes from a Marriage - Ingmar Bergman's bleak (surprise!) film about marriage... reminds me of Faithless, an even better movie, which was also written by Bergman
Proof - Australian film about a blind photographer
Secrets & Lies - adoption, working class families, people hating and neglecting one another unecessarily
"Only a small percentage of hunger deaths are caused by starvation. Most hunger-related deaths are the result of chronic undernutrition, which weakens the body's ability to ward off diseases, prevalent in poverty-stricken communities" --Hunger Basics FAQ
Word of the day:
sententious - Terse and energetic in expression, abounding in aphorisms, or abounding in pompous moralizing

"Leonel Herrera (Texas) Herrera presented affidavits and exculpatory polygraph results from a variety of witnesses, including an eyewitness to the murder and a former Texas state judge, both of whom stated that someone else had committed the crime. However, the Supreme Court ruled that innocence alone does not justify a federal hearing on this evidence nor was federal habeas relief available for mere innocence."

Police fabrication of evidence against protestors of G8 Summit:
"molotov cocktails were [planted] by police"
"[an] assault with a knife against an officer... was proven to be staged"
"high-ranking officers are being held responsible for false evidence and testimony on the part of police"

PreCC: A Prettier Compiler Compiler is an infinite-lookahead compiler-compiler for context dependent grammars. It "can be thought of as yacc with parameters, arbitrarily complex compound expressions, infinite lookahead and a neater way of dealing with attributes"
The Cocktail Compiler Toolbox
Lrc is a system for generating efficient incremental attribute evaluators. Lrc can be used to generate language based editors and other advanced interactive environments.
